RSG's Own Digital Transformation
While advising major enterprise subscribers on their digital transformation strategies and vendors, at RSG we've been on a similar journey ourselves.
It's been a multi-year journey of moving from a print-oriented publishing process to a PDF-oriented process with an application front end, to (as of this week) an all-digital workflow with decision-support tools for our subscribers to navigate the research.
Like most digital transformations, this work was grounded in a simple assumption: our customers are now in charge. We wanted to give them the ability to slice & dice and compare & share our research in ways that worked for them, rather than on how we laid things out in a long report.
I admit it was sometimes hard to give up nice clean, InDesigned layouts (you can still download PDFs, though they're not as pretty). But HTML and atomized content give you much more ability to compose your own artifacts, as well as output to Excel or PPT for easier sharing. So the journey has been totally worth it.

Going all digital and ditching page layouts also means we can update vendor evaluations on the fly, as we talk to more customers and integrators to filter and pass along suitable lessons. We're no longer publishing "editions" and will simply provide change notes to subscribers about key updates.
