The Enterprise Content Management (ECM) marketplace includes products that seem to offer similar capabilities but when you dig deeper, you will find significant variances. Vendors will differ meaningfully in terms of architecture and technical underpinnings, functional capabilities, the extent to which they support different scenarios, and critical strategic factors.
Documentum, Box and SharePoint are examples of such platforms. All of them are popular and in some ways representative of specific type of ECM services. However, we regularly see them in same shortlist and often, at least one of them is on the wrong shortlist or for the wrong reasons.
