Oracle: Too Late to Take Its Ball Back?

Database and application server vendor Oracle has bundled various elements of its disparate product line into a CM offering after watching substantial value accrue to point solutions from other software companies (that often use an Oracle database as the underlying content engine). Oracle points out that it already handles basic CM features like Role Management and Library Services at the platform level. Interestingly, Oracle's toolset strategy completely diverges from other enterprise CM "platform" players, like Vignette, who have been striving to create more productized versions of their product suites. But we don't think it's too late for Oracle to take its ball back; look for the company to challenge many of its current partners with a higher-level, branded CM package later in 2002....
